I am in total awe of the human body. The more I learn of it's complex and intricate design, the more enamored I become.
I look at what the female body accomplishes when it brings forth new life and I am humbled at how perfectly designed we women are.
First we produce an egg that when joined with sperm begins rapidly morphing into a little human being. The uterus hosts this new life form in the lining of it's walls, creates an organ(the placenta) to feed and nourish this new life as it grows, surrounds it in a sac of fluid to protect and nourish it, and at precisely the right time it sends a cascade of hormones that signals the body that the baby is ready to begin life outside the womb.
It gets better! When the signal to birth the baby is sent, the body begins rhythmically contracting in preparation for birth. These contractions have multiple functions. While helping to prepare the body and propel the baby out, they simultaneously massage the baby, stimulating the digestive system and the lungs in preparation for life outside the womb. Did I mention that with those contractions come hormonal rushes that provide endorphins to give mama the strength to continue? Did I fail to mention that those hormones also reach the baby and assist in the bonding process after birth?
When the baby is successfully birthed from the womb the placenta, no longer necessary, follows shortly after. When the baby latches onto the mother's breast it triggers hormones that tell the uterus to clamp down, which in turn stops any bleeding that may occur after birth.
Mother's breasts provide food for the baby, antibodies to protect the child, and release hormones that bond mother and child. They also act as a thermoregulator for the baby heating up if the baby is cool and cooling down if baby is too hot. All the nourishment baby needs is found right here.
Ladies, we are beautifully and wonderfully made. Trust your bodies to do what they were perfectly designed for. Birth doesn't have to be a medical crisis. Trust the process. Trust your design. Trust yourself. You are amazing!
God Bless,
Suzann
